We don’t have to wait for everything to be perfect.
We will never be happy, if we keep waiting for perfect moments. Here is a learning experience from my life.
I was in a transition phase — shifting homes, shifting jobs, and going through personal shifts too.
Transitions are always stressful… but also very important for growth. And growth itself is uncomfortable.
I was extremely comfortable in my previous rented apartment. It was peaceful — no landlord issues, no water or electricity problems. Everything was set.
But I decided to switch hospitals, and I had to move closer to my new workplace.
My previous home was a semi-furnished 2BHK. The new one is fully furnished.
Why fully furnished when I already had everything?
Because house hunting took more than a month.
I lost ₹30,000 in a scam.
I was exhausted, stressed, and had already given notice to my previous owner, assuming I’d find a place in time.
End of the month — no house.
I was about to put all my belongings in storage and move in with my grandparents temporarily.
But with my friends’ help, I found this home in a gated society.
It looked beautiful in pictures — and even when I visited in the evening.
What I didn’t notice that evening… was the pungent, rusty smell.
How did I miss it?
I had sinusitis — blocked nose and cough — so I genuinely couldn’t smell anything.
But the rest… I missed.
After moving in, reality unfolded slowly.
Cockroaches. Big ones. Small ones.
(I literally get a heart attack when I see one.)
Pest control was NOT done after the previous tenant left.
A wall had chipped paint just 15 days after being “freshly painted.”
There was mold in the cupboards near a damp wall.
The kitchen drawers smelled awful.
Even after 3 months… the smell hasn’t fully gone.
The fridge broke down.
No mosquito mesh.
Everything was scattered and needed to be arranged.
Within a week, I had a breakdown.
And that’s when something shifted.
I decided — I will create one safe space in this house.
Just one.
And I’ll slowly fix everything else, one thing at a time.
Because if I waited to feel okay only when the whole house became perfect…
I would never feel okay.
Even today, it’s not perfect.
But I’ve adapted.
First and Foremost – I got done pest control.
I shifted my bedroom to another room.
I created a cozy hall — sofa, TV, coffee table, sheer curtains, mosquito mesh.
I deep-cleaned the kitchen.
I’ve learnt to manage the smell (washing utensils before use, keeping things minimal).
Small changes.
But they created small pockets of peace.
And those pockets grew.
That’s when I understood something:
We often wait for everything to be perfect before we allow ourselves to feel happy.
But life is rarely perfect!
In fact, “imperfection is the most natural state of life.”
If we keep waiting:
– to lose weight
– to achieve a goal
– to have more money
– to find the right love
– to fix our situation
…we keep postponing our own happiness.
Happiness is not something we “find” one day.
It’s something we learn to “see“ in present.Something we allow.
We must stop waiting to be happy
if …
- You’re waiting to lose weight to feel happy:
Start feeling grateful for the parts of yourself you already love — the features you’re proud of. Let appreciation exist now, not later. - You’re waiting to achieve a goal:
Break it down into smaller steps. Celebrate each one. Let yourself feel a sense of victory along the way, not just at the finish line. - You’re waiting to have more money:
Spend a little on simple, budget-friendly things that bring you joy — instead of waiting to afford something expensive to finally feel happy. - You’re waiting to find love to be happy:
Learn to love your own company. Your solitude, your peace. Turn it into a blessing. Build a life you enjoy — because you never know when this phase of solitude might transform into another kind of beautiful. - You’re waiting to fix your situation:
Sometimes, instead of rushing to fix everything… just allowing yourself to feel the pain can bring unexpected relief.
If we keep waiting for perfect moments, perfect bodies, perfect timing —
we miss the present completely.
So maybe we don’t need a perfect life.
Maybe we just need to stop waiting.
And start living.
START LIVING AND STOP WAITING!
